Prince's signature song 'Purple Rain' rises from #20 to #1 this week on the Global track chart, replacing Lukas Graham's '7 Years' which reigned atop for 5 straight weeks. Originally released in November 1984, 'Purple Rain' peaked at #3 globally. Now it is the fifth #1 hit for the legendary R&B superstar, after 'When Doves Cry' (1984), 'Kiss' (1986), 'Batdance' (1989), and 'The Most Beautiful Girl In The World' (1994). Two of the Hit Singles are also back in the Top 10 of the global hitlist. 'When Doves Cry' soars from #31 to #6, and 'Kiss' rises from #38 to #9.
The highest debut of the week is Beyoncé's 'Formation', a tune from her new album 'Lemonade'. The song debuts at #8 globally. Another four songs from that album follow at #21 is 'Hold Up', at #23 is 'Sorry', at #27 is '6 Inch' and at #40 is 'Don't Hurry Yourself'.
At #2 for a second week is Drake's 'One Dance' ft. Wizkid & Kyla. The song will most probably be the new #1on next week's chart... and it's quite certainly that Drake will be also the new #1 on next week's Global Album Chart. Drake's new Album 'Views' will sell over a million copies in its first week!
Lukas Graham's '7 Years' slips from #1 to #3.
Beyoncé's 'Lemonade' soared this week to no.1 globally, with massive sales of 703,000 copies. 485,100 copies were sold in the United States alone, with another 63,400 in United Kingdom, 33,000 in Canada, and 20,500 in Australia. 'Lemonade' is Beyoncé's sixth studio album. Beyonce's former and self titled LP, also debuted on the hot spot with sales of 746,000 sales in the week 52, 2013.
Prince has eight of his albums in this week's Global Album Chart. The compilation 'Very Best Of' from 2001, which was #1 last week, is at #2 this week after shifting another 334,000 copies, totalling around 4 million since its original release. Prince's most successful album, 'Purple Rain', is #3 this week with sales of 173,000, and a total of 21 million since its release in 1984. Another two of his compilations, 'Ultimate' from 2006 and 'The Hits/The B-Sides' from 1993 follow at no.5 and no.6 with sales of 94,000 and 77,000 respectively.
Some additional sales stats: '1989' by Taylor Swift sold 15.000 copies last week, reaching a total of 9,452,000 so far. 'Beauty Behind The Madness' by The Weeknd sold also 15,000 units last week, totalling 2,061,000 so far, 'Chaos And The Calm' by James Bay sold 13,000 units last week and has sold a total of 1,367,000 units so far. 'Metal Resistance' by Babymetal sold 226,000 copies so far. 'Confident' by Demi Lovato sold 505,000 copies so far, and the self-titled Beyoncé album has sold 3,900,000 so far.
No one seems to be able to replace this Danish Phenomenal Band who has conquered the World Chart and remained atop for five straight weeks.
Drake's 'One Dance' makes another big jump from no.5 to no.2 and Mike Posner's 'I Took A Pill In Ibiza' closes the top three.

But also his compositions for other artists were spectacular successes, including 'Nothin' Compares 2 U' (Sinead O'Connor, 1990), 'Manic Monday' (Bangles, 1986) or 'I Feel For You' (Chaka Khan, 1984). Prince's most successful album, 'Purple Rain' (1984), sold 21 million copies.
Between Prince's death and the end of last week's chart period (Thursday 21, 24:00) were only a few hours. But it was enough, to send him back atop the Global Album Chart. His 'Very Best Of' compilation from 2001 sold 115,000 copies globally during that short time span, 100,200 of it in the United States alone, another 3,800 in Canada. Prince's most successful album, 'Purple Rain', jumped back on the hitlist to no.5. In the few hours till midnight on Thursday 21 it sold another 69,000 units. His compilation 'The Hits / The B-Sides' from 1993 shot to #21 selling 28,000 copies and the 'Ultimate' compilation from 2006 went back to #35 after selling 18,000 copies.
Last week's chart topper, the self-titled album of French singer Renaud, slips to #2, with a 65% sales decline to 111,000 copies, after selling 421,000 copies in just two weeks.
The legendary Latin guitarist Carlos Santana and his band are back with the new studio effort 'Santana IV'. it's not Carlos' fourth album, but his 28th. Santana's most successful album was 'Supernatural' from 1999 with the big hits 'Smooth' and 'Maria Maria'. It sold around 25 million copies to date and ranks at no.38 on the all time Chart.
'1989' by Taylor Swift sold 15.000 copies last week and reaches a total of 9,437,000 so far.
'Nine Track Mind' by Charlie Puth sold also 15,000 units last week, and 404,000 so far.
'Handwritten' by Shawn Mendes sold 11,000 units last week and a total of 821,000 units so far.
'Revival' by Selena Gomez sold 697,000 copies so far.
'Blackstar' by David Bowie 1,725,000, and 'Blurryface' by Twenty One Pilots 1,128,000.
Renaud is atop the current Global Album Chart with his 16th studio effort in more than 40 years. The self-titled LP debuts with sales of 310,000, with 287,300 of it in France (according to SNEP). The 63 year-old musician released his first album 'Amoureux De Paname' in 1975. Three of his many albums were million-sellers:'Morgane De Toi' from 1983, 'Mistral Gagnant' from 1985 and 'Boucan D'enfer' from 2002.
'Cleopatra', the second album of the American folk-rock band The Lumineers is at No.2 with sales this week of 147,000 in its first week in stores, 108,000 of it in the United States (according to Billboard) another 9,600 in United Kingdom (according to Music Week). The band's self-titled debut album from 2012 sold more around 2,8 million copies to date, driven by the single-smash 'Ho Hey', which was no.15 on the Year-End Chart 2013.
Third highest debut of the week is the 15th studio LP of German 'Schlager'-star Andrea Berg. 'Seelenbeben' debuts in 3rd place on the chart, selling just a few hundred copies less than the Lumineers 'Cleopatra'. Andrea Berg's biggest success was her 'Best Of' compilation from 2001. Although it peaked only at No.18 in Germany, it ranked 349 weeks on the official sales chart there (so far) and sold more than 2,5 million copies in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Denmark and Benelux together.
Japanese girl group Perfume debuts at No.4 with new set 'Cosmic Explorer' and 124,000 sales mostly in Japan, according to Oricon.
American alternative metal band Deftones rounds up the top 5 with 'Gore' and sales of 110,000 sales. In this period of low record sales, all five of the World's top-selling Albums have six-digit sales. Some additional sales stats: '21' by Adele sold 15.000 copies last week and reaches a total of 27,948,000 so far, 'I Cry When I Laugh' by Jess Lynne sold 9,000 units last week, and 953,000 so far, 'Immortalized' by Disturbed sold 15,000 units last week and 586,000 units so far. 'Confident' by Demi Lovato sold 499,000 copies so far.' Delirium' by Ellie Goulding 666,000, and 'My Everything' by Ariana Grande 1,780,000.
