At the moment the set is only available as digital download format and in its first days since the release on Thursday, February 12, we counted massive 559,000 sales. Sorted by countries it sold 494,700 copies in the USA, 37,000 in Canada and 21,500 in United Kingdom. Drake's former album 'Nothing Was The Same' started with 794,000 copies in the week 41, 2013. Another important debut this week is the soundtrack to the blockbuster 'Fifty Shades Of Grey'. The album rockets easily to the vice-position with healthy 319,000 units, 210,400 of it in the USA, 41,100 in United Kingdom, 18,000 in Canada, 16,800 in France, around 10,000 in Germany, and 7,400 in Australia. The Grammy Award show has big consequences on the hitlists. The albums of many artists who performed at the gala, showing enormous sales increases. Four-time Grammy winner Sam Smith climbs from no.5 to no.3 with his effort 'In The Lonely Hour', driven by a massive 107% sales boost to 211,000 copies. Album Of The Year winner Beck turns back at no.9 with 'Morning Phase' and 75,000 sales, a giant 400% growth compared to the previous week. The album was released exactly one year ago on February 21, 2014 (USA) and arrived at no.3 on the Global Album Chart in the week 11 with 143,000 sales. The last time the album ranked in the Top 40 was in the week 18, 2014 and it sold a total of 655,000 copies to date. Very unusal to see that last week's no.1 album, Taylor Swift's '1989', shows a 20% sales boost to 149,000 copies, despite a big drop to no.6 on the tally. Also Ed Sheeran's 'X' slips down on the list at no.5, but wins significant 48% in sales to 162,000 units. Some additional sales stats: Beyoncé's self-titled album sold 14,000 copies last week and reaches a total of 3,758,000 so far, 'Love In The Future' by John Legend sold 11,000 units last week, 1,364,000 so far, 'Night Visions' by Imagine Dragons sold 15,000 units last week and has a total of 4,300,000 copies so far, 'In The Lonely Hour' by Sam Smith sold 3,989,000 copies so far, '1989' by Taylor Swift 6,313,000, and the soundtrack of 'Guardians Of The Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol.1' 1,759,000.
Mark Ronson's "Uptown Funk!" feat. Bruno Mars is no.1 in the global chart for a ninth consecutive week after just 12 weeks on the chart.
Ed Sheeran's ever so romantic ballad "Thinking Out Loud" stays at no.2 for a fourth week. Hozier's 'Take Me To Church' remains at no.4 for a fourth consecutive week.
The greatest Gainer of the week is Ellie Goulding's 'Love Me Like You Do' from the 'Fifty Shades Of Grey' soundtrack which will debut next week on the chart. The song jumps from no.10 to no.4, driven by massive sales in the UK.
Taylor Swift's smash album '1989' returns to the top of the World's best-selling Albums Chart for an eighth week after selling another 124.000 copies. Since the start of the Media Traffic Album Chart more than 10 years ago, there were only four albums that remained at number 1 longer including 'Fallen' by Evanescence and 'Life For Rent' by Dido which both reigned for 10 weeks each, the 'Frozen' soundtrack which stayed atop for 11 weeks and Adele's '21' which held the no.1 spot for an incredible 42 weeks.
Taylor Swift's second album 'Fearless' from 2008, sold 8,5 million copies.. '1989' has already moved 6,164,000 copies in just 15 weeks and will most likely outsell its predecessor.
Back to this week's tally, close behind '1989' is 'Shadows In The Night', the 36th studio album from one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century, Bob Dylan. The LP consists of covers of traditional pop Songs made famous by Frank Sinatra and sold 118.000 copies around the world in its first week.
Canadian jazz pianist and singer Diana Krall has this week's second highest debut, her 12th studio effort 'Wallflower' enters the chart at no.6 with sales of 102.000.
Sam Smith's album 'In The Lonely Hour' remains at no.5 selling another 102.000 copies after his huge Victory at the Grammys last week. Ed Sheeran's 'X' is this week at no.4 with sales of 109.000.
Beck's 'Morning Phase' sold 14.000 copies after taking home the Grammy Award for Album Of The Year.
Bjorck's 'Vulnicara' sold 15,000 copies last week and reaches a total of 85,000 so far; 'Paris' by Zaz sold 11,000 units last week, 499,000 so far; 'Ghost Stories' by Coldplay sold 12,000 units last week and has sold a total of 3,236,000 copies so far; 'Cheek To Cheek' by Tony Bennett & Lady GaGa sold 928,000 copies so far and 'Listen' by David Guetta 762,000.
'Uptown Funk!' by Mark Ronson feat. Bruno Mars reigns for a straight eighth week atop the World's best-selling Singles chart. The song was written by Ronson, Jeff Bhasker, Bruno Mars and Philip Lawrence with Ronson, Mars and Bhasker credited for producing it as well. The single has been a huge hit commercially, spending five weeks at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 and topping the charts in several other countries including Australia, Canada, the UK, Ireland, France and New Zealand. The single holds the title of the all-time most streamed track in a single week in the United Kingdom, having been streamed a record 2.56 million times in a single week.
"FourfiveSeconds" the new Single released by Rihanna, Kanye West and Paul McCartney is this week's highest debut. Their 'FourFiveSeconds' rockets to no.6. For Rihanna it's the 21st smash on the Global Top 10. For Paul McCartney it's the 22nd hit there as a solo artist and his first Top 10 success since "Hope Of Deliverance" in March 1993!
