American hip-hop star Drake shoots atop the Global Album Chart this week with his new effort 'If You're Reading This, It's Too Late'. At the moment the set is only available as digital download format and in its first days since the release on Thursday, February 12, we counted massive 559,000 sales. Sorted by countries it sold 494,700 copies in the USA, 37,000 in Canada and 21,500 in United Kingdom. Drake's former album 'Nothing Was The Same' started with 794,000 copies in the week 41, 2013. Another important debut this week is the soundtrack to the blockbuster 'Fifty Shades Of Grey'. The album rockets easily to the vice-position with healthy 319,000 units, 210,400 of it in the USA, 41,100 in United Kingdom, 18,000 in Canada, 16,800 in France, around 10,000 in Germany, and 7,400 in Australia. The Grammy Award show has big consequences on the hitlists. The albums of many artists who performed at the gala, showing enormous sales increases. Four-time Grammy winner Sam Smith climbs from no.5 to no.3 with his effort 'In The Lonely Hour', driven by a massive 107% sales boost to 211,000 copies. Album Of The Year winner Beck turns back at no.9 with 'Morning Phase' and 75,000 sales, a giant 400% growth compared to the previous week. The album was released exactly one year ago on February 21, 2014 (USA) and arrived at no.3 on the Global Album Chart in the week 11 with 143,000 sales. The last time the album ranked in the Top 40 was in the week 18, 2014 and it sold a total of 655,000 copies to date. Very unusal to see that last week's no.1 album, Taylor Swift's '1989', shows a 20% sales boost to 149,000 copies, despite a big drop to no.6 on the tally. Also Ed Sheeran's 'X' slips down on the list at no.5, but wins significant 48% in sales to 162,000 units. Some additional sales stats: Beyoncé's self-titled album sold 14,000 copies last week and reaches a total of 3,758,000 so far, 'Love In The Future' by John Legend sold 11,000 units last week, 1,364,000 so far, 'Night Visions' by Imagine Dragons sold 15,000 units last week and has a total of 4,300,000 copies so far, 'In The Lonely Hour' by Sam Smith sold 3,989,000 copies so far, '1989' by Taylor Swift 6,313,000, and the soundtrack of 'Guardians Of The Galaxy: Awesome Mix Vol.1' 1,759,000.
