Japanese pop phenomenon AKB 48 with their fifth album shoots to no.1 this week!

It's the sixth studio album of the Japanese pop phenomenon AKB 48 and the fifth to debut at No.1 on the World's Best-selling Albums Chart. 'Koko Ga Rhodes Da, Koko De Tobe!' sold an incredible 747.000 copies in its first week out, according to Oricon. One year ago their previous LP 'Tsugi No Ashiato' went to no.1 with 962.000 units. 'Koko' is one of 16 new entries this week.  The second highest entry is the new Album from the Californian punk band Fall Out Boy. 'American Beauty / American Psycho' debuts at no.2 globally with sales of 266.000, 191.000 of it in the USA, 31.500 in the United Kingdom, 14.000 in Canada, and 8.700 in Japan. Taylor Swift's '1989', remains at no.3 with sales of 135.000 copies, and a total of 5.920.000 Albums sold so far and Ed Sheeran's 'X' remains at no.4 after selling 102.000 copies this past week, and a total of 4.413.000 Albums to date. Marilyn Manson's new LP 'Pale Emperor' debuts at no.5 this week with 95.000 copies sold. 


Four years after their last album 'The King Is Dead', the American indie-folk band The Decemberists return with their seventh album 'What A Terrible World, What A Beautiful World' at no.9 with 70.000 sales.


Some additional sales stats: 'AM' by the Arctic Monkeys sold 13.000 copies last week and reaches a total of 2.325.000 so far, 'Ghost Stories' by Coldplay sold 15.000 units last week, and is at 3.211.000 so far: 'Partners' by Barbra Streisand sold 16.000 units last week and has a total of 1.599.000, 'Prism' by Katy Perry sold 3.450.000 copies so far, 'No Fixed Address' by Nickelback 623.000, and 'Cheek To Cheek' by Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga 915.000.
